I have recently stumbled on this modest restaurant by Wellington Parade in East Melbourne, Australia.
Just a few paces away from my hotel, it wasn't just because of its proximity or convenience that prompted me to write a review.
It took me three visits to be convinced their offerings stood up for what the business represents in the culinary point of view.
Although you can hardly tell from its ambience and facade one will be treated to a bevy of modern gastronomic interpretations, the moment you open the menu you realize they got something different going.
Persillade, which literally means a sauce or seasoning mixture of parsley, has always given me that satisfaction in my every breakfast visit. I would bring my colleagues around if the opportunity arises so they can also see a different side of the morning - that it is not just about sunny side up, pancakes or a cup of coffee.
The BIG BREAKFAST was one of the most exciting fare I ever had at Persillade - well executed and the serving portions were just enough for one to enjoy all the complementing flavors. I thought the friend Marmite dumplings (Cheesymite Croquettes) really captured the essence of Australia in general and the adventurous culinary culture of Melbourne.

I also tried their Smoked Trout Congee which could have been much nicer if it was served piping hot. As I was very hungry, I didn't bother to return it to the kitchen. However, if this is how they serve their congee then it won't live up to its Asian origin. What I really liked about it was that the smoked trout wasn't very salty. It had a really mild flavor which complemented well with the strong flavor of the bacon crumbs. It appealed more like a comfort food on a rainy day back in the Philippines.
Lastly, and definitely not the least favorite of them all, their coffees are just exquisite! Whether it is soya or cow's milk, my cappuccinos have been awesomely prepared. And it is served in a rustic earthenware on a wooden board. It definitely made my every visit complete. This brings me to saying Melbourne has got it right when it comes to coffee and breakfast cravings. I have never been let down.
